TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
CHOOSING A TENT:
There are many camping tents available, but I recommend this tent for beginners. It costs less than 95 dollars! Although it is advertised as a six person tent, I recommend 4 people max. It fits 2 queen size air mattresses. It is very durable and will last a long time, and it is also waterproof. Also it is very easy to set up and take down.
STAYING WARM:
If the low at night is above 55 degrees fahrenheit, you can usually get away fine with just bringing blankets. If it is colder, getting warm sleeping bags would be a wise decision.
STAYING COMFORTABLE:
Air mattresses are a great way to stay comfortable. I highly recommend these air mattresses, which are super comfortable and made just for camping. Air mattresses can be a bit squeaky when rubbing against the bottom of the tent, so I recommend bringing blankets to put underneath them.
EATING:
For your first trip, you can usually get away without a cooler for 1-2 nights if you pack foods that don't really need to be refrigerated and it's not too hot. For example, you could eat granola with almond milk (non perishable) for breakfast, premade sandwiches for lunch, and pasta for dinner. All of these meals can survive a couple days without being refrigerated.
COOKING:
A campfire works great for first time campers who don't have a camp stove, but there are some recipes that require a stove.
HOW LONG TO STAY:
Although it might seem like staying just one night would be best, I recommend two nights for your first trip. Why? Because you can get a feel for camping more. One night is almost always too short.
WHERE TO CAMP:
I recommend that you choose a campground that is less than 90 minutes away for your first trip. It would be best if that campground has flush toilets.
